Naseby Under Snow

Located in the heart of the Central Otago goldfields, the town of Naseby was founded in the 1860's and played an important part in the history of New Zealand's goldrush era.

Naseby and its surrounds are steeped in history and littered with nostalgic reminders of the time when man pitted his wits and skills against mother nature in an attempt to find gold.

An often harsh and unforgiving climate, a wild and mountainous terrain and huge distances between populated areas all made for some amazing stories of heroic feats and horrific tragedies worthy of any epic saga.

The area has changed little from those heady days, and much evidence of the existence of those hardy souls still remains. From the scarring of the landscape from massive sluicing operations to the rocky ruins of huts long abandoned - you can spend weeks exploring the area and marvelling that anyone could survive, let alone flourish, in such a place.

Modern day visitors to the area can relax in a comfortable no worries total home stay accommodation package designed to make you feel at home in our friendly and hospitable environment. 4WD tours to the goldfields, dredging, panning and hand sluicing can be included in the package for those who have an adventurous streak.
